Old meets new in a unique chamber ensemble
Provocative performances built on the startling legacy of early recordings
Using historical evidence to inspire new ways of making music
The Florian Ensemble is a flexible chamber group of strings and piano with a fiercely independent perspective on music, imagination, and history.
Supported by an in-depth study of recordings made by the Czech (formerly Bohemian) Quartet in the late 1920s, their playing often transcends modern expectations of how ensemble musicians should interact.
Coupling the vulnerability, intensity and involvement of performers from generations ago with a modern approach to historical performance, the group opens a door to new ways of experiencing old scores.

Creating Musical Stories
From 2018-2020 we ran workshops with 10 primary schools in Cornwall. The children came up with amazing stories in response to music by Haydn, Janacek and Britten.

Florian: Up Close
House Concerts
Florian: Up Close is our series of intimate house concerts: more intense, more live, more sociable than a conventional classical performance, these events are a chance to experience visceral music-making with ‘no filter’. Our successful first season was held in London in Autumn 2019.
If you are interested in hosting or attending a future event in the UK, you can let us know here.
